Papua New Guinea
IDA at Work
An IDA-supported project has benefited more than 20,000 smallholder coffee and cocoa farmers by helping them manage their crops more efficiently, fight a crop disease threatening cocoa harvests, and gain access to markets.
Since 2011, more than 8,000 young people -- 40% of whom are women -- have participated in an IDA-supported jobs and training project in Port Moresby. Participants have completed more than 360,000 combined work days.
More than 80% of Papua New Guinea’s population lives in rural areas; limited infrastructure is a major barrier to development. An IDA-supported project has helped connect nearly 500,000 people in rural regions to better telecommunications services.
