IDA at Work
About 80 percent of Afghanistan’s population lives in rural areas and is dependent on agriculture and livestock occupations. A rural enterprise development program is helping develop rural small and medium businesses through microfinance and technical assistance.
Ethiopia's Productive Safety Nets Program has helped the government put systems in place that have increased the country's resilience to food insecurity and drought.
Through an IDA-supported project, road maintenance groups, or collectives of around 5-6 workers from local communities, carry out routine maintenance of roads, benefit from livelihood opportunities, and ensure community ownership of rural roads.
