IDA at Work
From 2007-2015, an IDA-supported project helped increase the incomes of more than 2 million Kenyans by empowering poor people in rural communities to engage with local governments and identify poverty-fighting projects.
IDA, the Global Partnership for Output-Based Aid and Kenya Power teamed up to provide safe, reliable and affordable electricity in Nairobi’s slums. The number of new connections rose from 5,000 in 2014 to 150,000 in 2015.
In response to a humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa and a corresponding increase in Somali refugees, IDA provided food and health care in the world’s two largest refugee camps in Kenya and in Ethiopia. An IDA project contributed $30 million to support the delivery of emergency services overall, benefitting more than one million individuals.
