We can end extreme poverty and create more inclusive societies by developing human capital. It requires investing in people through nutrition, health care, quality education, jobs, and skills. Without human capital, countries cannot sustain economic growth, will not have a workforce prepared for highly-skilled jobs of the future, and will not compete effectively in the global economy.

The World Bank’s first early childhood development project in the Pacific Islands region began in the Marshall Islands in 2019. The project will support early childhood development in areas such as reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition services, with a focus on the first 1,000 days of life.
